Got a new LTO2 tape drive yesterday.

I'm doing server to server backups using arcserve 2000(or version 7)

So far, i'm getting 700MB/min between the servers.

LTO2 is rated for 30MB/s. So 700MB/min is only about 11MB/s. Which isn't all that great.

Each server has a copper Gigabit adapter.

I'm planning increasing the IrpStack size soon.

What kinda of speeds are you getting with your LTO2?

There are many factors that come into play when considering backup speeds. The following are in no particular order:
- file size (many smaller files back up slower than a few large ones)
- Disk speeds (10K)
- SCSI drivers/firmware
- Disk fragmentation
- Switch/hub configuration/firmware (we just replaced a GB copper switch that was dropping packets without explaination. It was causing agent time out issues as well as poor speeds)
- Processor/Ram of both client and server
- NIC drivers/firmware

We have an Exabyte M2 and see speeds of up to 1515MB/min for 25 GB of data (mostly large files). However, the majority of the other servers are in the 700MB/min range.
