Any body know what's the tape reuse limit or recommended reuse maximum on LTO tapes? We have purchased an LTO backup solution but would like to know how many times we can reuse the same tape.

Thanks. The ONE ( HP-UX + Solaris + AIX + Tru64 = Unix)

Most LTO tapes have are good for 1,000,000 head passes & have a shelf life of 30 years.

I did some very rough calculations ages ago, based on 2000 passes per backup and worked out our 30 day cycle would be good for 300 Years....

I tend to replace the tape if I have more than 5 errors in 24 Hrs even after head cleaning... Just a rule of thumb though. --

Thanks, much appreciated. The ONE ( HP-UX + Solaris + AIX + Tru64 = Unix)

However, we've had various bad luck with different tape vendors. We've had tapes go bad right out of the box. Be wary of where you get your tapes from.
