Ok I know sorta what meta tags do and i have been viewing the source of several pages on the web... can anyone tell me what this statement means or does:

<meta http-equiv=&quot;Content-Type&quot; content=&quot;text/html; charset=iso-8859-1&quot;>

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Bill

it sets the type of characters to sue for the web page. eg. hebrew:

<meta http-equiv=&quot;Content-Type&quot; content=&quot;text/html; charset=ISO_8859-8&quot;>

Or, Cyrillics (e.g. Belarusan :)):

<meta http-equiv=&quot;Content-Type&quot; content=&quot;text/html; charset=windows-1251&quot;>

You don't need to be worried about all that stuff unless your webpage has to hadnle various alphabets, e.g. Arabic, Cyrillics, etc...
