I had a problem to list long filename on solaris 8.
The filename likes : VHS-1234________________________________________________________________xyz.dat

Took time to list it and sometimes I can't list some directories contained this kind of filenames.
I also had a problem to copy this kind of filenames.
I used root to do cp command.
cp : can not access VHS-1234________________________________________________________________xyz.dat
Files owned by many users.
So I should use root to copy it.
Any suggestion to solve this problem?

Can you use wildcards? Why are the filenames so preposterously long?

Filename generated by application. All files stored on NAS.
Yes, I can use wildcards.
I can list very long filename using firefox browser.
Any setting should be done on Solaris 8 OS?

hello every body ,I use solaris 10 on VMware ,I have user's name kasem
has home directory /export/home/kasem
I create this user completely , but ,when I need to create file or directory ,when I'm loged in by this user , shows error " cann't create file"

please : I'd like to get the answer .
regards

Hi Kasem, you should really start a new thread for this, but have you checked the permissions on /export/home/kasem
? The user Kasem would usually need read write and execute on this directory.
