urgent matter here.

My Brother HL1230 laser printer which is the network printer here is giving me error messages.
- the alarm light goes on,
- a message appears on the screen Error writing to LPT1: The requested resource is in use.

Im using winNT 4.0 server, any ideas...

Also sometimes a bunch of papers get passed hrough but nothing prints, if I wouldnt stop it manually it would go through the whole paper rack..

So far Ive, changed the paper, took out the drum and toner, shook it up a bit, replaced it, tried to run a test page from within its properties ect alls the same....

The only thing I had it print was its internal default test page,

Anyhow, your comments would help me
...Thanks

More to note,
when double clicking on the default printer, you know the printer activity queues thingy, the status reports an error as well.

Ive checked and the the correct drivers are installed, same as the LPT1 port.

See now im just waiting 25 mins till all the employees log off for break so I can reboot the server and printer hopefully this will do it; otherwise im in deep doodoo.

thanks
Ps . it was working fine all week now this...

So, from what you tell us, the printer HAS been working. At what point did it appear to stop working? I would not be at all surprised if re-booting the server didn't cure it. However, has one of the users accidentally selected a wrong paper size? I have known this to cause the sort of problem you're getting. I.e. problem stops everyone working until print queue cleared, printer and server switched off then on again. I'm sure you've already checked the parallel port cable etc.
