lpstat error

Hi,
We are using novell server as remote print server for aix.we have installed around three printers and successfully and taken print out on printers.But now when we are trying to add another printq it dosen't give any error on adding printq but when we give lpstat to check the status of que it gives error message "sales_inv_pl2_pr1: sales_inv_pl2_pr1 does not exist or you do not have rights to it."

Here is a snapshot how i am creating printqueue:-

Add a Standard Remote Print Queue

Type or select values in entry fields.
Press Enter AFTER making all desired changes.

[Entry Fields]
* Name of QUEUE to add [sales_inv_pl2_pr1]
* HOSTNAME of remote server [10.190.0.10]
* Name of QUEUE on remote server [sales_inv_pl2_pr1]
Type of print spooler on remote server BSD +
Backend TIME OUT period (minutes) [] #
Send control file first? no +
To turn on debugging, specify output []
file pathname
DESCRIPTION of printer on remote server []






F1=Help F2=Refresh F3=Cancel F4=List
Esc+5=Reset Esc+6=Command Esc+7=Edit Esc+8=Image
Esc+9=Shell Esc+0=Exit Enter=Do

The queue gets added without any error.The ip address which i have mentioned in smitty screen is of my novell server.but when i give commnad lpstat it gives the following error.

all the queues are added for novell print server.I have checked the thread52-79377.but still unable to resolve the problem
Can anyone help me ? I am completely lost.

Hi arvibm

Never and ever trust any unix falvor in one aspect...This is one of the drawbacks of unix.I worked with Liux,solaris and aix latest versions.So please think like this ..."If u do not get any error in output after adding queue or executing certain command ...it doen't mean that ..what ever you did was successful!!???"...
I too experienced several times...and many other unix admins or unix users as well...sometimes one can't see any error output after executing a unix command but gets shell prompt...This is misleading...right?!
We show always check our results...so please do not mislead by the output (no error ) after printer adding...

I noticed one thing from your post is:Type of print spooler on remote server [BSD]...Ist it right?! I think it should be "AIX version 3 or 4"

If u are sure about it..can you post the /etc/qconfig entry for the print queue in question?
Also give me the out put of the command:
#lpq -Psales_inv_pl2_pr1

Also check the spoler subsystems/daemons by isssuing command
#lssrc -g spooler
If u get they are inoperative ...please stop and start ..all of them at once
by runnig the commands such as stopsrc -g spooler and starsrc -g spooler..

Hi Sushveer,

I am using novell print server to print from aix server because there is no way to take the print out from aix server on windows 98 clients attached printer.To configure print queues of novell server BSD to be used.I have checked the spooler daemon and its active.i am not getting any error on other three queues which are on same novell server.(e.g. ibm1_pr ,ibm1_it ,sales_hall_pr).

Pls help..
