On an Intellistation 9114-275 running AIX 6.1 struck a problem I cannot figure out how to correct.

# oslevel -s 6100-02-02-0849
# lppchk -v
lppchk: The following filesets need to be installed or corrected to bring the system to a consistent state:

bos.loc.utf.ZH_CN 4.1.3.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.utf.ZH_CN 4.1.3.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)

# instfix -ciqk 6100-01_AIX_ML | grep ":-:"
# instfix -ciqk 6100-02_AIX_ML | grep ":-:"
The four above instfix commands returned nil.
All the files above are foreign except bos.loc.com.bidi 4.1.0.0.
The installation was English.
As I do not wish to install all the foreign files sets how does one
" corrected to bring the system to a consistent state "
Cannot find anything relevant in smit to uninstall and cannot find
bos.loc.com.bidi 4.1.0.0 on the installation cd.

Any help appreciated as searching has not revealed anything to assist me.

Thanks

It's trying/has tried to install all languages for the xlC

they are located in the bos.loc.* filesets on the base CDs.

You can save yourself trouble by not installing support (in xlC) for all languages.

E.g. only install the compiler's en_US-oriented filesets for English.

Mike

Thanks for your reply.
Any suggestions on how to correct the mistake.
As I cannot find anything similar in smit to uninstall should I go ahead and install all of the
"bos.loc.* filesets on the base CDs "
for the various languages then uninstall them in smit.

Thanks

You have a couple of options

1. Remove the xlC components and re-install.
2. find an the old 4.1 / 5.3 cd's and install the requisite filesets.

Mike

"Whenever I dwell for any length of time on my own shortcomings, they gradually begin to seem mild, harmless, rather engaging little things, not at all like the staring defects in other people's characters."

Mike, where do you get the notion that xlC is the culprit?

I'd just remove the exotic printer filesets to remove dependencies on those language filesets.

HTH,

yes, I would uninstall all filesetes which are seen on "lppchk -v -m3" output as dependent from:

bos.loc.utf.ZH_CN 4.1.3.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.utf.ZH_CN 4.1.3.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.utf.ZH_CN 4.1.3.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
X11.fnt.ucs.ttf_CN 4.2.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
X11.fnt.ucs.ttf_CN 5.3.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.com.JP 4.3.3.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.com.JP 4.1.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.com.bidi 4.1.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.iso.ko_KR 4.3.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.iso.ko_KR 4.1.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.iso.zh_TW 4.1.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.utf.HI_IN 5.0.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.loc.utf.ZH_CN 5.3.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)

(most of them are printers.* filesets).

Also if there are any bos.loc.* on different then 6.* level I would ininstall them too.

check "lslpp -Lc bos.loc.* " for none AIX 6.1 filesets...

btw. if the uninstalltion of any printers.* filest will fail for no given reason, then most probably print queues are configured in the system and will have to be removed prior to printers.* filesets uninstallation....

Uninstalled all the file sets and system now clean.
# lppchk -v -m3
