Hi,

On one of my AIX5.1 machine, I getting the undermentioned error when I run lppchk -v. Does anyone know how I can fix this error ?. (PS: I was attempting to update from 5100-03 to 5100-04 but it failed because the bos.sysmgt.nim.master & bos.sysmgt.nim.spot could not be installed.)

lppchk: The following filesets need to be installed or corrected to bring
the system to a consistent state:

bos.sysmgt.nim.master 5.1.0.0 (BROKEN)
bos.sysmgt.nim.spot 5.1.0.0 (BROKEN)
devices.isa_sio.PNP0600.com 4.1.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
vacpp.html.ja_JP 5.0.2.0 (usr: COMMITTED, root: not installed)

Thanks & regards,
EuSoon

In the software install section of SMIT there is an option to clean up after a failed install. This should sort things out.

Hi haexpert,

I've tried that before but it didn't help.

Check the all broken filesets :

lslpp -l |grep BROKEN

Broken filesets cannot be cleaned up. It can only be reinstalled or removed. Broken base filesets are corrected by forcing the install of the base fileset.Broken PTFs are corrected by reinstalling the PTF in the committed state.

Hope this will help....

Need more info like output from "instfix -i |grep ML" and "lppchk -v".

Below is the instfix output after the failed ML4 upgrade. The lppchk output is in my 1st post.

All filesets for 5.0.0.0_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 5.1.0.0_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 5100-01_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 5100-02_AIX_ML were found.
All filesets for 5100-03_AIX_ML were found.
Not all filesets for 5100-04_AIX_ML were found.

what caused that ml04 failed? (check /smit.log)

and run this:

oslevel -r -l 5100-04

r, m.

try to do the following:

#lslpp -v
#lslpp -c

you should not get any broken filesets when you issue lslpp -l |grep BROKEN. Otherwise you should force install the base filesets.

Hope this will help....

Thanks,

Sorry, here is the command :

#lppchk -v
#lppchk -c

You should not get any broken filesets when you issue lslpp -l |grep BROKEN otherwise you have to force install the base filesets.

Thanks,

I've tried reinstalling these 2 base filesets but was prompted to extend /export filesystem. But /export is just a directory for nfs mount point on my system. In any case, I'd now removed bos.sysmgt.nim.master & bos.sysmgt.nim.spot and this has help to bring my system up to ML4.

My question now is, are these 2 filesets required cuz I do not see them installed in my other system ?

The only error left from lppchk -v is:
devices.isa_sio.PNP0600.com 4.1.0.0(not installed; requisite fileset)
vacpp.html.ja_JP 5.0.2.0(usr: COMMITTED,root: not installed)

You only need them if your server shall be a NIM Master.
If not you don't need them.

axelsche has answered your question. If you are not happy with that then remove the bos.sysmgt.nim.master 5.1.0.0 and
bos.sysmgt.nim.master 5.1.0.0.

Hi everyone,

You guys are great and I appreciate your good advice. Cheers.
