lpd restarting

I am getting entries as shown below for every printer I have in syslog every few minutes.

Jan 27 10:20:06 hostname lpd[18695]: restarting printer_1
Jan 27 10:20:14 hostname last message repeated 10 times

Any ideas what could be causing this. There are a lot of users on the system and none so far have reported problems with printing.

Did you look to see if there are any reset codes in the PCL codes for this printer? That is assuming you are using PCL. This printer also could be resetting itself or diconnecting itself, when another resource is using it such as Novell or even Windows if the network connection is timing out.
