can lpd accept a print job and output it as a file?

What someone needs is a lpd server that will accept a print job from a remote site. The job could be huge (up to 50 meg) and might take some hours to receive. The file must contain no control characters (upper ascii) When done, it needs to be moved to a share on an NT machine.

I just printed my first job with lpd so I'm pretty new to it. Getting the file to an nt machine can be done easily with smbclient, etc. The required scripting makes me a bit nervous but anything's possible. But before all that I need lpd to print to a file.
Any ideas? Thanks!

check out Linux Gazette number 72, which shows how to create a samba shared "printer" that prints to a file (in this case it's making a pdf printer) that other people will retrieve later.
