Hello !
We've got an old SYS V 3.2 still in use.
It has been tuned by the developper/vendor of the programs we use.
But there's not any lpd on it and the man isn't working anymore.
Who can help me finding a binary lpd for that system ?
I have no compiler on the machine, and no installation disks.

Desperate case ?

And did you want manuals with that?
Do you have licensing for when it upchucks? Ed Fair

i don't understand your question , Ed
All i know about that system is that i only have what's on the disk and that's all.
and i need that damned lpd !

Hi
I have a "pile" of sco diskettes and manuals for SCO 3.2, you can email me at cparegan@dbbjb.com if you are interested. I cant guarantee that the diskettes will read or give you any help on adding the operating system module though.

I was asking the first part so anybody looking would know that you need the disks and the manuals.

The second part refers to the licensing codes that are required to install the OS if the system upchucks. You will need them to put the OS on a fresh hard drive.

And this raises another question, not for me, but for you. Do you have drivers for any special devices installed on your system?

I'm trying to help you resolve your tag line. It is only a desperate case if you don't have any answers or an alternate path. Ed Fair

the drivers are ok because i can use my printers locally , i have a "lp" prog tha does it well.
As i want to use them remotely, i need lpd to talk with.
That's my problem.
The machine is OK for everithnig we do on it but not for that.
Excuse me ed but i still don't understund "upchucks" ...

I'm not talking about the printer drivers. I'm talking about things like your multiport card drivers. I'm assuming that everything is serial, or modem, or printthru.

I talk with all my remote printers with lp. How are yours remoted?

Upchuck is a generic term for various and sundry glitches that cause computers to become unusable.

I'll give an example. One of my customers running 4.2 lost the primary drive Monday. It took 4 hours Monday and 2 hours Tuesday to get a replacement drive to work and to load the patches and drivers. The Tuesday time happened because I didn't have the multiport drivers in the emergency bag. They also lost 2 days of data. This is the 5th reload in the 5 machine system in about 4 years. The longest downtime was 3 days and they lost 2 1/2 years of patient information by failing to have proper backups.

There are people that are backed up. And there are people that know they are backed up. Which one are you? Ed Fair

you answered my question with "I talk with all my remote printers with lp. How are yours remoted?".
I hacve serial printers on the SCO but i want to print with it remotely from a linux Redhat.
I was searching for a "lpd " on my SCO but if you can do it with lp, that's OK .

In fact, i have no docs about lp for my SCO and i didn't know it could manage remote printing.
What 's the way to do it ??

Most are passthru on dialin. I'm trying to remember the details of the test setup I had with the lp on a remote box.
I'll try setting it up again. May be a couple of days. Ed Fair
