Here's my problem: Overnight, a device defined as a printer was apparently sent thousands of small print jobs. I have 5.0.5 installed and it bombs when trying to list them all.
The error is: "ERROR: The LP print service isn't running or can't be reached. TO FIX: Your request can't be completely handled without the LP print service. If this problem continues, get help from your system administrator."

A hard boot does nothing. How do I get the LP print service working again?

Thank you.

Dan

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

If it's an lpd printer, and you've configured a printer in
/etc/printcap directly before enabling remote printing, then
you may also get some errors. (lpd doesn't start
automatically on bootup until /etc/printcap exists, but then
the auth db stuffs up, so make sure it's enabled first).
