Low volume on calls between remote i2050 sets

Having an issue with calls on i2050 softphones in which the volume is very low/quiet. However calls to digital sets, or outside calls are fine.

Using g729

Anyone ever see this behaviour?

Thanks,
Neal

Actually I have this reversed. Inter-extension calls are fine. When a user gets an outside line the call volume is very low, user can hardly hear the call on the headset, even when PC and Phone volume set to max.

However, when dialing inter-extension calls, volume is fine.

I do not believe this is a hardware problem as the internal calls are fine. Digital and i2002 sets do not have this problem, only our remote users (VPN) using the i2050.

What other info do you require?

Thanks

what sort of headsets are you using?

Is there any way you could lend them a IP hanset rather than the softphone to test the connection.

Hi Maverick are you using the same codec.

and the same as above

Yes mostly its through a vpn connection when accessing a line and dialing, the volume drops to bare audiable. But vpn and internal the volume is loud enough.

Using GN Netcom sound tube headset with GN Netcom USB adapter. I really don't think its a hardware issue.

I would have to agree, maybe its the codec? i have tried several headsets and adapters

Are the lines digital lines(not sure of all your protocols ISDN or similar)

What is the Matrix of the network?

What about bandwidth?

Have you tried increasing the codec for test purposes.

I think I have answer, but I don;t like it.

Any truth to this statement:

"BCM with analog trunks has a problem with the off net calling from IP handsets. There is inherent signal loss that occurs with the longer distances for the analog trunk circuits.

The current release of code for the BCM's (3.X) the analog signal parameters are not configurable. They are a fixed value and with the weaker signal strength, the issue of low call volume is a recognized problem. The newer pending release of code (4.X) will have a configuration option to adjust the analog signal strength for the lower quality lines."
