ok. Somewhat leery about posting this problem, but I am at a loss. Go easy on me oh fellow techs.
I have installed a truckload of CICS in my day but all of a sudden I have 3 customers complaining about their systems.
The trouble reported is that their customers cannot hear them and they have to speak very loudly to be heard and often have to hang up and use their cell phones sometimes. My customers can hear the callers just fine.
Telco has been called on all 3 jobs and swears that all their levels are good. One of the systems is a refurb that I installed to replace an old 616 that finally died a few months ago (they did not want to replace all of their phones--yet).
All employees agree that they never had this low volume issue until the CICS was installed.
So I have to believe them.
2 other jobs with same complaint. Low volume heard by callers.
When I test the lines, there is a drop in volume from the lines at the demarc. Not as extreme as what has been reported, but there is one.
Mike Sandman would know what to do.

Try adjusting the line loss package to long CO or Long PBX under lines, that should boost the transmit. There are other options there so you might have to experiment a bit.

Which part number line card? are they all the same?

I know that the trunk cards do not always look the same. Do you know of problems with a certain model? I have a box full of trunk cards, which is the preferred?
I will try to adjust the line loss. Thank you.
I know that I have swapped the line cards (LSDS) and it did not make a difference.

Measure the line current on each line. A normal reading will measure between 25-35mA. Too low and you will have volume issues. Too high and the line will sound loud and with echoing.

Newer DS cards are labeled NT7B69AAAA or higher. Older DS cards are labeled NT7B75GA or higher. Either one should work from my experience.

I tried the different settings in line loss programming/no difference. One tech I spoke to (after I left the site) said he heard you have to disable and enable the trunk cards in maintenance for these settings to go into effect. Have you heard of that? There is very little info about these settings in the manual.

Changing trunk cards made no difference.

Telco lines at demarc are fine.

This is a system that was built in the UK for the UK, not Mexico or China. Do you think that could make a difference?
