Low Paging Space and getty

Is there a way to prevent a hung server, due to low paging space from disabling (getty) the serial (s0) console port.
It would be helpful to be able to use the serial console port to gracefully stop databases instead of doing a "white button reset". This causes database corruption and a lot of restore work.

wouldn't it be a better idea to write some kind of control script that warns you trough mail or sms when paging is less then 10 %, and automatically activates a standy paging space.Then you have time enough to find out what is causing the problem
If you system has hung through low paging, you will certainly not be able to shutdown your database, as you will have to make a connection to your database which requires memory,and doesn't have it ...

Have you thought about tuning the system?

Check out vmtune in 5.1 and vmo in 5.2 & 5.3
