Hi

We have an SBS R2 SP1 Running SQL Server from the Premium Tools.

The machine has 4GB of RAM, reciently I have noticed the remote desktop
'stuttering' when logged in remotely. Initally I thought it was due to the
WAN lines etc, but logged into our TS and that was running perfectly.

I have just checked the memory usage and it has 3.4GB of physical memory
available, it usually runs with 300 to 400mb available (a few hours after
booting) the last reboot was 3 weeks ago. SQL server usually consumes 1.7GB
and the Exchange Store 600mb.

No services have been restarted receintly, I am a little concerned! On a
friday afternoon it should be running a full load with all the staff working
110% to get things done before the weekend!

Should I be concened? After writing this email the memory usuage has gone
down rather than up.

Thanks in advance
B

bernie321,

I am not an SBS specialist just another user like you. I did have to enable Physical Address Extension (PAE) in boot.ini before the machine saw all 4GB of RAM...but 32-bit Windows cannot access and use all of it due to hardware memory reservations. If you don't have PAE enabled look into it.

I do know that SQL and Exchange are memory hogs, but remember unused RAM is useless RAM!
