hi,
i delete an unwanted partition from win2000 and tried to format it, but while doing so by mistake i selected the low level format option, for an hour or so i waited for it to complete but then i lost patience and i interrupted it and switched off the pc.

now i am not able to format it again, does that mean i have lost that much of my hard disk space for ever?

Did you try redoing the low level format, and let it run to completion?

no, after that i thought of reinstalling win2000 again, during the installation before partioning it always gave a blue screen.
now i have installed win98 on a 5 GB partition rest everything is lying unused, i am not able to use fdisk also to creat any partitions on that.

what do i do know?

Now you have an OS on it try using Partition Magic to sort out the unused space

Might try a utility that writes zeros to the entire drive or redoing the low level format. If you can download a comprehensive drive diagnostic from the manufacturer you should try that. You should only use the kind of software designed for your drive and distributed by the drive manufacturer.
