Hi,

Is there a way to perform a low level format of a Samsung Wn316025a hard drive?

Thanks

LW

Download Samsungs own hard drive utility program free from there site, make a bootable floppy with the downloaded software (usually automated) set first boot device in bios to floppy, restart PC use tools. Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

Howdy:

First of all, Samsung does NOT provide a utility to performn a low-level format.. as per their site..

You cannot format the disk drive at low level.
The servo, sector layout and defect management information
contained in the low level format is designed to last
the life of the drive.
As such, this information cannot be overwritten
outside of the factory.
But we will attach a file which makes a hdd the same status
as that of when you purchase a hdd newly,
that is, status of no data and status to be formatted newly.

After booting from A: drive,

type A:\>clearhdd 0

when the hdd is connected as a master.

¦ YOU MUST BACK UP YOUR DATA BEFORE FORMATTING.
If you want to format with your slave.

type A:\>clearhdd 1

Good luck!

The above is the program they mention..
