Does anyone know of a loud ringer for an IP phone we have a remote warehouse served by a lan connection and need an external alert for the warehouseman so he can hear the phone its a 4624 set

Build an analog station - assign to the Bell and put the 46xx phone and the analog in a coverage answer group.

quick and easy.

Thanks,
Chris

I am not sure I made myself clear we don't have any copper in that warehouse its about a mile from the switch and the phones are all IP so an analog bell is connected how?

We've done this before for Cisco Call Manager by using a Cisco ATA 186. That box has two station side analog ports and can be configured for H.323, SIP, or MGCP. I suspect you could use H.323 or SIP trunks on an Avaya with the ATA 186. IF you try it, post back a config - we've go a similar need coming up later this year.

I have done something like this before but not with an IP phone ....I have installed 5 / 10 watt SELF AMP speakers off the speaker leads on the phone 64xx and 44xx series
so that when someone calls the phone and it rings it also
rings through the speaker (and stops when the receiver is picked up) opening the phone and tapping the speaker leads
will break the warrenty but I have had no issues in the past and have done this with non Avaya systems as well

opened phone and wired speaker leads to my paging speaker
usually marked as T & R on Self Amp Speaker I then would wire a -48 & Grd to my secondary power pairs on speaker to a local 48 volt power supply

Actually its -24 volts that are required for the self-amp
speakers

Does he have a cell phone? If so, you can setup a xmobile station.

In the future everything will work...

We have done the speaker / amplifier thing here as well. We did it with a cheaper 4602 set.
Just open the case, and wire the external horn and amplifier to the speaker leads on the phone. Then run the pairs to the horn. Works like a charm in a noisy school cafeteria.

Thanks for all your help guys we used the ATA186 for an analog station to ring the bell in a coverage path from the IP set works good. We translated the analog station as h323 station and up it came with abrdg appearance on the ip sets to answer.

Mult-Tech has a product that has 2 ports that can be configured as an analog station or trunk port. you have to have at least CM 1.something or higher to use this device with a definity. they call it a gatekeeper and it also comes in 4 or 8 ports. we use them often for VoIP faxing.

We are using the MultiTech MVP130-AV, the AV version is designed especially for use with Avaya systems and can register with Communications Manager. It has a single FXO/FXS port. It works very well as an analog endpoint.

Thanks much you guys for the amazing amount of choices we have for the analog device over IP I had know idea there was that much stuff out there.

lvfcinc,

when you use multitech mvps for faxing, are you experiencing any problems with that? i did some research on them some time ago and all the information i've found suggested that these devices do not support t.38 faxing protocol. are you using them only with g.711 codec? please share the knowledge, it may help creating True Beautiful IP Solution. :)

The MVP130-AV does support FAXing and the T.38 protocol. We are using it now on several FAX machines. The trick is to the download an unpublished firmware upgrade for the MVP130-AV from the MultiTech site that supports the T.38 protocol. We are using G.711,G.729 for the protocol.

RhinoJohn,

ahem. so it IS possible, just like i thought. :) thanks very much. the only question left is where to get that firmware if it's unpublished. :)
