I have one user who when he logs on to Notes he spikes that particular servers processor at 100% (NT4TS, Metafram 1.8) It happens on both of our TS's and compacting and fixup on his database doesn't yield any results. Other users in Notes are fine.

I tried rebooting all three servers (2 TS's and one NT4 File server) to see if this helped any but no luck.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tom

Have you checked which process causes the spikes ? If the user is at a different station is it still happening ? If not, it's a client problem. You could try to reinstall the Lotus Notes client. If it happens at different clients too, try making a new account for the user. Let him login and check again.

Check all the users Notes Client settings, had a similar issue recently with a user taking an eternity to access a mailbox, it turned out to be the settings under File/Preferences/UserPreferences/Ports ...all the available Ports had been enabled "mysteriously"...!!! I think Notes checks for the Mailbox on each enabled Port each time the Client mailbox is selected......

I checked to make sure no other ports were selected and there were none. The workstation and client does not matter for this user because it is the same for all users as this is a citrix system.

Not sure I understand what you mean, each user should have individual client/desktop settings within their Notes Client...???

Were you able to identify if any processes are causing the server to hit 100%...???

nlnotes.exe is the process that eats up the processor. I checked the settings you said about the various ports and that was set up correctly. The reason I say it does not matter which workstation he works off of is because he's essentially going off of one of our two terminal servers and the actual workstation is doing no work. Which ever server he's logged on to has the same problem so it has to be an individual setting within the program that I'm missing. Any ideas?

Thank you for responding

Tom

Yeah, I appeciate what your saying about the client running on the server, we have Notes set-up so that each "client" pulls in individual settings to the terminal server allowing each user to have their "own" desktop etc.

Does the nlnotes.exe for this user run at 100% constantly...??...or is it worse at start-up of the client...?? Like you are saying it does sound as if there is something within their client setting that is disrupting the server (like the port thing..)...have you tried a re-build of their notes client...???

Sorry for being a bit vague, but there are so many settings/configs possible within Notes....

Ok upon further monitoring of activity compared to the processor usage it appeared it took its biggest hit while opening the mailbox. However from the get go it was taking more than the typical session. This user used one ofthe headlines options for his welcome screen and I decided to try changing that to basic to see the results. It turned out this was the problem.

Thanks for the help
