Hi folks need some help...

I have installed Domino R6 on a 2003 Server.
When setting up for mobile access, ie, setting up the com ports etc...
within domino console i get the message "com2 device or unit already in use"
I have searched the knowledgebase and found only one topic.
it says that the OS has to recognise the modem... well 2003 does...

I can dial the modem but it just times out, when checking the logs I get the message "com2 device or unit already in use"
I have deleted the port and modem restarted the server and re added them again but still get the same message..
Has anyone out there had this problem.
HELP HELP HELP

Hello,
I would check to make sure the COM port is enabled in the servers notes.ini. I also found this on the Notes Support Site:

Products & services > Software > Groupware - Productivity and Lotus > Lotus Support Services >
"Com1: Device or unit number already in use" in server log when attempting to connect via modem

Technote

Problem
You have reinstalled the Domino server and now users can no longer access the server via a modem. When attempting to connect to the server, the users receive the error "Server not responding." When you run a 'show port <port name>' at the Domino server console, it appears as if the port is listening correctly. The modem port is enabled and the com port number is correct. The log.nsf, however, still shows the following errors:

"Com1: Device or unit number already is use."

"Com1: Modem does not respond."

Solution
In this case, when attempting to run modem diagnostics from the OS, it was apparent that the OS did not recognize the modem. The customer had to have the OS recognize the modem properly before Domino would utilize it. It is important to note that it is always necessary for hardware to be recognized and configured at the OS level first before it can be utilized by Domino.

Hope this helps.
