Lotus Notes Option - properly backing up Notes DB's question

We use the Notes Option in addition to the Client Agent to backup our Notes server.

When I set up the backup job, I noticed that I am backing up the *.NSF files (Notes DBs)in the Notes\Data directory as well as the Notes DBs via the Notes Option. Isn't this REDUNDANT? Do I need to back up at the file\directory level as well as via the Notes Option? I was told by CA that the Notes Option is optimized to backup Notes DBs while they are in use or open.

I want to eliminate any redundancy as I am running out of space on my media (we have over 20GBs of Notes Databases). Which is the best (safest) way to go? Keep the redundancy or continue backing up as I have been doing. Any feedback is much appreciated.

The client agent should get a list of all the Notes files from the Notes agent before the backup. This list of files is used to filter them out so you don't back up the data twice. If NSF files are part of your Notes data then it sounds like this isn't working.

You can always use the backup options to filter out *.NSF files from the backup.

Option 2: Uncheck that directory where these nsf files are stored.

I also tested a restore of a Notes DB backed up with the Notes option. It restores the NSF file completely.

Tanks for the tips.

Hey guys,

I am trying to back up a remote Notes server using ArcServeIT 6.6.1 and the Notes agent and am having just a heck of a time trying to do so.

Do you have any tips for a successful INSTALL of the Notes agent? The installation instructions are quite vauge in my opinion when trying a remote Notes server (and by remote I mean same subnet and IP range, but different server and domain.)

Mucho appreciato,

There is very little configuration involved with a the Notes Agent. Just install, and that's it! Actually, there is more configuration involved with the "regular" client agent!

However, On the Arcserve Server Manager side, you should notice in the tree where you select the machines to backup that under the leaf where your Notes server is listed (NOT under the agents area) you will see a new icon that listed as "Lotus Notes" and all the databases listed underneath it. There is where you can choose which Notes dbs to backup.

Not sure where you are having trouble so hope this helps!
