Hi everyone! Hopefully someone here will have the answer i am looking for. we are getting an error on our Lotus Notes/Domino Server 6.01 CF1. goes like this:

The server seems to be crashing when a client runs a compact process during the day (that is when the server is more heavily loaded). The compact process runs each night at 10:00 pm without a hitch. I have checked the Notes server logs to verify this. I have disabled the ability of clients to run a compact on databases. The error i am getting is below:

Thread=[0145:0002-0199]
Stack base=0x0012F58C, Stack size = 4716 bytes
PANIC: LookupHandle: handle note allocated

Lotus Notes: error 0x143

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hi,

Welcome to the select club of people who get a R6 server crashing with the "0x143" error...

The cause can be many. No documentation can usually be found on this one.

My experience is that it usually has something to do with corrupt files on your harddisk.

My recommendation is to proceed as follow:

1/ Bring the server down
2/ Use the command prompt to run a fixup and compact on all databases on your server
3/ Re-install your domino server in the same location

This will fix any corrupt files you might have in Domino.

However: this might not solve your problem yet if the corrupt file is in the OS.

If the problem is still there, proceed as follows:

1/ Perform a chkdsk on all the drives
if this does not help:
2/ Make a backup of the /data directory and the Notes.ini
3/ Reformat the HD
4/ Install the OS again
5/ Install Domino again
6/ Copy the old data directory and the Notes.ini back
7/ Install any Domino add-ons you might use
8/ Install Domino as a service if you need this
9/ Run!

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
