A user I support alerted me to a problem that I had never thought about before. She sent an email to several recipients and also bcc'd someone. The person who was bcc'd apparently replied back using "Reply to All" and the other recipients also received the reply. Obviously now they have become aware that someone was bcc'd. Isn't the purpose of the bcc to "secretly" send someone an email without the other recipients knowing. Obviously this could cause some serious problems if the response is really something that the other recipients shouldn't be privy to. Is this just a quirk with Lotus Notes or do all email systems work like this. The user was under the assumption that the bcc'd person would only have the ability to reply only back to her - not all the others. Any ideas here. I realize that the way around it would be to send the email to the original recipients and then forward the email to the other person, but other than that is there anything else that can be done to prevent this.
