I am a newbie in Lotus Notes.

I have to create a link between Lotus Notes e-mail and Microsoft Access database.

There are data received from web and they get sent to Lotus Notes e-mail account. Manager would like to review those data received and if approved she would like to send those data in the MS Access database within a click of a button.

Can anyone suggest how and where I can start on this Lotus Notes e-mail - Access linking process ...
(web->LotusNotes->MS Access)

Any assistance provided will be helpful!

Thanks in advance!

First off, you need Domino Designer to do this. If you have Domino Designer, then the first thing to do is search the "Lotus: NotesDesigner" Forum for "Access" or "SQL" or "ODBC". There are several examples in that forum that describe how to connect to Access/ODBC through LotusNotes.

When the information is captured from the Web, do you know if it is stored in a NotesDocument? Or does the manager just get an email? If email, how do you know what data to send to Access?

Glad to help, but need a little more info.

Leslie Thanks so much for prompt reply!

What is a Domino Designer? Is it part of Lotus Notes?

When the information is captured from the web it get stored to manager's e-mail which is specially assigned for this task. She reviews all the data thru her mail-box and she wants to send selected e-mails (web-data) to the Access database.

Please let me know if you need more information.

What does the email look like? Does all the information need to be inserted into Access? How do you determine what information goes where?

Yes, Domino Designer is the development tool for LotusNotes. The easiest way to determine if you have it is to, in Notes go to Create -> Design -> Select anything and if Domino Designer is installed it will open it and allow you to design new stuff. I'm not sure what it will do if you don't have it installed (some generic error maybe?).

I am so completely new to web and lotus notes. But I have to learn these software in order to complete the task I am assigned.

Laslie:

I have a web page with a data entry form about ~ 11 fields in it. So when user clicks on submit after filling out the form the e-mail look like the following:

FieldName1=data entered from web page
FieldName2=data entered from web page
FieldName3=data entered from web page
etc....

I have the same number of fields in the MS Access Database. And yes if perticular record is selected then all the fileds data get exported to MS Access Database.

I don't have Lotus Notes/Domino Designer installed on my PC but I can go to the test lab and request the temporary account and work from there ... But my main concern is - is there a way to create a link between Lotus Notes with MS Access Database to store the necessary data received from Web Page???

Does the web page create a NotesDocument? If the web page was developed using Notes, it shouldn't be difficult. I haven't done much with Notes and the Web.

So if the web page creates a NotesDocument, then you just have to access that document when the manager approves the email and update the fields from the document to the Access Database.

Let me know and I'll do what I can!

Actually, I have built the web page in Dreamweaver MX.
Can I create a NotesDocument thru web page using Dreamweaver MX?

I don't know, I will send a link to this thread to one of the other Notes people in this forum (pmonett) who has been working with Notes a LONG time and has been doing some web design lately. Hopefully he will be able to assist us!

Hi all !

Sorry I was a bit late on this, but I have finally found something useful. You can view this thread on lotus.com :
As for creating a notes document, since you're on the web, a bit of JavaScript included should help.
I'll be taking a look at that shortly.

Pascal.

Thanks Pascal (Pmonett)!
I'll take a look at the above link ...
