Is there any way to set Notes to remember your password? We have one user who has his Notes set to remember his password, but I have never been able to figure out how he set it, and even he has no idea how he did it.

Notes does not remember the password. Such a notion totally defeats the security the ID file is supposed to guarantee.
What might have happened is that the user managed to synchronise the Notes password with the OS password.
I know that option exists, but I do not know how it is implemented.

This was in Help:

To sync with the NT password:

1. While installing Notes, choose the Custom install
option in the "Lotus Notes Installation" dialog
box.
2. Click Next.
3. Select "NT Client Single Logon."
4. Click Next and finish installing Notes.
Notes
Once Notes is installed, it automatically recognizes that your Windows NT password should also be used as your Notes password. You are not prompted for a password when you launch Notes.
If you want to change your synchronized password, you must change it using Notes.
To stop using Windows NT password synchronization with Notes, you must uninstall Notes. When you reinstall Notes, do not select "NT Client Single Logon" if you are doing a Custom install.

Re the last two lines in the previous post, if you disable the Lotus Notes Single User service this will do the same thing. Saves uninstalling Notes!
