Hi, have got 123 release 5 running on Win Xp (I know we should have moved to excel). When highlighting a cell or cells, and right-clicking and selecting Lines and colour, and clicking the drop down arrow for background colour - nothing happens. No drop down box providing a choice of colours is opened, nothing happens at all.

Is this a compatibility issue, or is there a patch or something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Steve.

Ok, thanks for that - very useful. However, as the thread/threads you pointed me to suggest, there are other issues with 123 R5 and XP. We also have 123 9.5, would that be a better alternative, or are there also known issues with that - I know it works ok on 2000, but not sure about xp - although I have heard rumours.

Thanks, Steve.

Hi
I was hoping someone else might chime in too.

I use 9.6 on win98. Because of discussions in other threads i've purchased and tried to install rel5. (ie my comments on version 5, 9.7 and 9.8 are all hearsay and reference to other threads.)

There are a couple of threads discussing rel 5 vs later versions. My thought is that if you have a large backlog of macro code that really needs rel 5 to run properly then it may be worth the effort for you to trouble shoot your current installation and make it work. If you don't have a large base of stuff that requires rel 5 to work, then "my personal opinion only" is that it would probably be better to upgrade. see comments thread69-218445. I think there are a lot of listings of both rel 9.7 and 9.8 on ebay. (See thread602-493220 for comments about buying for work on ebay.)

As far as excel vs lotus - again my personal preference would be to continue using Lotus; however it again depends on your situation. If you have requirements for reporting or linking with things like accounting packages that require excel, that may make more sense. If you're doing your own spreadsheets and don't have to worry too much about interface with the microsoft world, then I think you can do the job well AND save a lot of money using lotus products.

Ok, thanks again - I think its time we moved away from Lotus. In fact the policy has been for the last 3 years, any new spreadsheets should be created in Excel (users work is accounts heavy, with various links). Obviously historical stuff is being kept, but the time and effort needed to convert some of the files is far greater than the benefit that would be achieved. I guess these files will just become obsolete in time...

Anyway, thanks again, much appreicated.

Steve.
