I have the unfortunated job to compare the base line and performance of a large LAN with a lots of .cap files, and my boss want a report. Anyone knows any software that can open a lot of .cap files and generate or show me sumary can be used like a report from Sniffer Reporter??

Thanks in advance,

Douglas

Douglas:

If you don't want to use the Sniffer Reporter ( easiest way ! ) you can use the scripts .bas included with Sniffer in order to export history tables' data data into a spreadsheet and generate your graphs.

I recommend to use Sniffer Reporter.

I dont know about the BAS script, I just take the history files as they are.. import them into excel.. delete the 1st row as it's bad data(all zeros), clean up the date stamp and make a graph with the data.. works very slick. reporter is nice and all that but you gotta use what you have..

1st step

2nd step

This gives nice step by step instructions

Find me at
"The trouble with giving up civil rights is that you never get them back"

I use tethereal (comes with Ethereal) and type the following command:
tethereal -n -r ..\filename.cap > ..\filename.txt
If you go to my website:
and them my "HOW TO" link, you'll see how to import the text file to Excel.

When I have a bunch of files the tethereal command makes the job quick. I converted 10-8MB cap files within 15 minutes.

Good Luck
