Lost with an Alcatel Speedtouch USB

Hi

I have just subscribed to a wires only connection to ADSL as an ADSL newbie and thought I was making an astute move buying a brand new Alcatel Speed Touch USB modem through Ebay at a vastly reduced price than the provider...

However the modem is designed for a freeserve connection and I am not. I have installed a driver from Alcatel website and loaded no problem.

I need to know how I can go about changing the Encapsulation = PPP
Multiplexing = VC Based
Modulation = MultiMode

as these setting appear to be visible via the modem monitor but not changeable..

I would be extremely grateful for a hand in my endeavour
