Recently I had a system burn...in the process windows 2k decided to creat a new profile for a user (who is using the same log on credentials as before) The original profile folder is on the hard drive and all of the files are still in place, but windows created a new profile folder with the same name and .0000 added to the end of it (ex original=folder new=folder.0000) I would like the user to be able to logon with his same credentials and his original folder. Any suggestions?

hi there,
It's a frequent problem of Windows XP and probably not for win2k.

Any way you have no choice but to copy and past config files in to new profile folder and then delete old one.
There's no way to go back to old profile.

BTW Have you applied SP2 yet?

Keep SPs on!

I have found the answer! It resides in the registry, a fun place to play for the educated. Under HKLM\software\microsoft\windowsnt\profilelist you find the two registry keys that represent the two profiles in question (these are keys that are named the individual SID numbers)You then have to modify those two keys. For example if the last section of the Profile Image Path Key on one SID is ...../folder and the other is ...../newfolder, you must make ...../folder change to ...../newfolder and vice versa. Make sure you are logged on as an administrator tht is not either of those profiles and that you have changed them both.
