Hi.. my sister young boy was click happy one day when she wasn't looking. She runs windows 98 and has lost the start button and the option of quicklaunch icons. The task bar is there but nothing works on it. The start button is gone altogether. Also the cd-rom no longer works either, its like it can't read anything. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I am clueless as to how the little one was able to pull off the key combo to make the Start Menu button disappear, but...this should bring it back.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del (just like you're going to do a warm boot), when the Close Program Menu comes up, select Explorer. Click End Task. In the next dialog box, which asks whether or not you want to shutdown your computer, click "NO." Wait about 10 seconds. When the next dialog box appears, click End Task.

Also, have you tried a simple reboot? See what is still non-functional once you've done this (if you already haven't).
