Lost the last few lines of win.ini

I have a number of Win9x computers to maintain. We have the usual problems but this one is new and has cropped up 3 times (and maybe 4) in the last few days. The final lines (up to 50?) of the win.ini file go awol. There is no obvious reason for this, I have updated virus checkers and searched for more "human" virus problems. Any ideas?

(there are no users who know what the win.ini file is)
