I was creating a table which inadvertently went over the page edge and onto the pasteboard. I have that nagging "gee, did I manage to key in the self-destruct sequence by accident" feeling, but I am not at all sure what caused all of the items I'd previously stored on the pasteboard and the master items--specifically the guides--to disappear. I have tried reopening the program, reopening with the shift/ctrl/alt trick that fixed my last problem (tabs palette went blank), rebooting the computer, searching for spyware, and running NAV.

Any suggestions?

Have you checked the View menu to see if you have Show Guides selected?

Pastebnoard items stay with the page they're on. You might try View menu/Entire Pasteboard and go to the page where you put them and see it they show up.

Yes. The view menu only offers me the Hide Guides option, which I have toggled several times. And I have looked at the entire pasteboard; nada.

One other thing: the empty pasteboard (in my original document) is grey, while the default pasteboard should be white, right?

I am not familiar with layers in InDesign, but I have a layer, but onlyone layer, that is a CYMK color.

I have discovered that this problem apparently exists only in this document, so I remain hopeful that I can fix the file--unless it is corrupt beyond redemtion--instead of recreating the entire document in a new file.

Any more suggestions/comments?

You're in preview mode. You should be in edit mode.

On the tools pallette click the very bottom left buttom. Right now the bottom right will be highlighted (active). You should see everything

jmgalvin,

Thank you SO much! You were exactly right. However, I cried Uncle and opened a new document and have now moved almost all of my files. Sigh.
