Hi I have lost the password for my switch, but I need to recover the config, does anyone have a way I can do this, I have the smtp string if that can help?

enter the bootrom and unconfigure the password

You could go into the bootrom menu as stated above and select force a factory default boot (d) then enter f to boot. Once you're in (admin no password) you could then give it an ip address and upload the configuration you're trying to save to a tftp server. (Just don't save the config or you'll overwrite your desired config with the factory default.) You'd have to cut and paste then to use any of the config data. Or maybe you could delete the encrypted password entry...I'm not sure. That's for an Extremeware/Summit 200. I'd have to look into the XOS difference if it's for a 450 etc.
