Hello, i have a simple network with a router. Linux (Redhat 9) computer was pointing to router, with a simple linksys ethernet card, eth0. it has been working fine. But today i cant get online at all. when i type ifconfig, it shows that eth0 is up, but that every packet has been dropped.

Rx packets:0 erros:0 dropped:8610710 over.... (rest zeros)
Tx packets:0 erros:322 ... (all rest zeros)
everything else looks normal in the settings.

any idea what this means? there isnt a conflict of Ip addresses, other computers (windows) on network are fine.

I have restarted the service, rebooted, and re-installed the card. ANYONE have any ideas? THanks for the Help!!

I would start at the router and work my way back. Switch ports with another machine. If it starts working, you have a bad port on the router. If that doesn't work try another patch cable then last but not least, the ol' network card. If you still didn't find the problem, then the only thing I can think of is you told a big fat fib. Since you didn't tell us that you messed with the net configs before this happened, I assume they are in the exact state they were when it was working.

1) Can your router ping out? (eliminates the router)
1a) Can your router ping the PC or any other internal device?
2) Can another PC get out via the router? (eliminates the routing tables and a given port)
3) Can your PC get out on the same port? (bad port, see above port)
4) Can your PC ping the router? (bad local routing table, bad NIC, new IPTables config?)
