Lost my mouse

Yesterday I installed an XServer on my sarge setup, and it worked fine.

Then I shutdown and when I came back this morning I cannot use the mouse.

I was going through a KVM, so I got another mouse and hooked it up to the machine directly, but still no luck.

I've tried running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86, but I still come up with no useable mouse.

The machine is an HP Proliant DL360

Is there more information I need to provide, or any advice someone can offer?

Ask the cat?! ;-) Sorry.

Have you been able to use the KVM before? I've seen mice get "lost" when you switch away from box and switch back. You're pretty stuck when that happens.

Also, I think that "gdm" is still required to be running for support of mousing, check for that service.

I'd also venture a guess that some sort of mouse config utility is part of the X/KDE that might be able to reinstate the mouse visibility.

BTW, is this a mouse visibility issue (can you do anything invisibly?) or have you lost control of the mouse and its perhaps invisible also!?

Yeah, the KVM is good, at the worst a reboot of the bad box usually clears up any KVM problems... but I ended up plugging a mouse to the PS2 port directly with no better luck.

And no it's not a visibility issue, I can see it, I just can't move it.

I finally just plugged in a USB mouse and it worked fine, so that's good enough for me on this particular box.
