Somehow or other I have lost my brushes shape.
When I select a brush I get the 4 point icon, not the round brush which increases as you increase the brush size.
The brush still works and the size changes in the brushes palette.
I have been going around in circles without any success.
I am using Photoshop CS

Thanks for any info on this.

Try this:

Click on the Brushes tab in the upper right corner and next to the actual word is a little button. Click that and the dropdown list should have a selection called "Reset Brushes..." Hit OK and they should all be back in place. Then scroll down the list and select the one you want.

You probably need to change your preferences. By clicking Edit > Preferences > Display & Cursors, you can edit your tool for brush shape. I believe the hotkey is CTRL K in 7.0, but an unfamiliar with CS. Hope this helps.
