Lost movement in GIF's

I belong to a forum that uses little emoticons - everyone can see them move - but me - I have tried everything I can think of to sort this out. This morning I uninstalled shockwave player and they worked until I rebooted - then nothing, they just sit there - still!!
I would love some ideas on this.

Have you tried

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Under multimedia make sure "Play animations" is checked.
