Lost memory due to infestation

Hello everyone, I'm new here and have a problem on my computer. It was recently infested with some kind of crap, ie virus, spyware, adware, or something like that. I went to another forum where they helped me rid my computer of the junk.

However, while my computer was infested, 16% of the memory on the C drive was suddenly used up. This is so weird because over the course of a year, I have only used up 11% of the memory.

So my question is, is there any way for me to recover the 16% of the memory? Or is it lost forever?

Please help, I'm completely lost.

Okay, I think I fixed it by disabling system restore. The hard drive disk space is now back. Wow, I had no idea system restore took up so much room!

I would re enable now. so you will have back up. System restore needs to be disabled rebooted and re enable to clean out the old restores or the size can get quite large. Also I beleave System restore saves the desktop so don't use the desktop to store large files or your system restore will get real big real fast.
