We lost the IP Adresses on a BCM 1000 2.5. Can anyone remind me how to find out what the IP adderess is on this old unit. Oh I tried using the serial port and logged in but I dont have any options.

Thanks

On these old units there is only one LAN port.

Hook a laptop to it with a crossover cable and it should sync up and then on the PC

start
RUN
CMD
ipconfig you should get the IP range and the BCM should be xxx.xxx.xxx.001

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Thanks, but the DHCP is turned off on the BCM.

Are you sure you have the right settings when you try to hyperterminal?

It's hard guessing what your doing without some screen prints of what your doing. try the Serial port again
9600, 8, n, 1 Login and show us screen.

Connect a Null Modem cable to the serial port on your computer to the serial port on the bcm. log into the bcm and the first screen you see should be the IP Addresses that are on the Lan ports. (the older version of the bcm you could order them with one or two nic cards in them).

BCM 1000 only came and can only have 1 NIC card.
If this unit was on a lan the IP is just like the PC's on the lan 192.168.1.x from your browser keep trying .10-.11-.12 on so on untill you get the BCM main screen. It's worth a try.Plus you wont get any support from Nortel it's retired.

Also if the BCM is on the network and has a static IP try doing start, run, CMD and then type arp -a. Should give you a list of statically assigned IP addresses. One of those should be the BCM

After connecting via the serial cable, select command line interface (option 6 or 7). At the command prompt, type ipconfig /all |more. Look for the IP address there. My guess is your system has a WAN card if you've only got a single NIC. You'll probably see a bunch of other adapters listed in the system.

I wonder why all 6 of my BCM 1000 have 2 LAN Cards and they both work, I guess they must be defective.

i have installed about 25 1000's and everyone of them had 2 working LAN's just like ace stated...

10.10.10.1
10.10.11.1

I have a BCM 1000 that is on software version 4.0. It has two nics as stated above. I would try that. It is unlikely that someone would modify both of them. I have my primary LAN interface set to my subnet, but I never touch the dedicated management NIC IP.

I only change the 1st LAN and make sure it is the PUBLISHED IP in the BCM and connect to the LAN Network and leave the 2nd at the default of 10.10.11.1.

When possible, never change LAN2. Also, never saw a BCM1000 w/o two NICs, guess is possible.

Some of the older models do have only 1 LAN port. I actually have an Enterprise Edge and a BCM 1000 in my office both with 1 LAN port.

If you can login to the Serial port and you know the user/password you will get a menu and you select 2 and then Q and you will see the IP address.
