Hi,

I had a computer crash the other day, and it ended up being formatted and reinstalled, problem is the ID file for Notes was on there.

I'm using Notes R5.

Is there something I can do from the server to recreate the ID file?
Is there something I can do from another client that will recreate the ID file?

Right now if I reinstall Notes, I can not connect to the Domino server.

If I end up having to delete and re-register the user, in order to save the email, do I just need to:
1. copy the username.nsf file from /Mail to somewhere else
2. delete the user
3. (re)register the user,
4. copy the username.nsf back to /Mail
5. setup the client software

Is that correct? Is that order correct?

Thanks in advance,

OK. I have to say first of all you are running your entire domain without backing up user ID's. Maybe you should create a database to store all your notes ID's in from now on. The easiest way to get this user up and running is as follows

Recreate the user id using the normal process but when it asks for the mailfile name ie mail\jbloggs.nsf use their existing name but with a 2 on the end. Once the ID is created you can go into the address book and change the mailfile name from jbloggs2 to the original jbloggs. Then you can simply delete the new mailfile notes created (jbloggs2.nsf) and your user will be up and running. The only problem is if the user had encrypted mail they will not be able to read it anymore because the ID will be different and therefore so will the encryption key. There is no way round this unless you can find the original ID.

Hope this helps
