Hi

Does anyone out there know how to correct a fault I have with an local drive (hard disk) icon?

I recently had to do a restall of my Windows XP Pro 64bit edition, but after clicking on MyComputer, my hard drive icon appears as a sheet of paper with a fold in the top right hand corner.

My efforts have been to go to regedit, and into folder options, but with no luck. Hence request to those of you out there who have my experience and knowledge than I.

Please help!

Regards

if you double click it does it open?

Check to see if there is a desktop.ini file in the root of the drive. If there is delete it.

What happens if you try to go into Tools->Folder Options-> File types.
Select the Drive entry, and click on advanced?

Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Hi Vacunita

Thanks for your reply.

When I double click I can open up the drive and I can access all the folders as normal. It is just the icon that is incorrect, and what I need to change.

Yes, as I mentioned earlier, I did go into Folder Options, and File Types, but this made no difference whatsoever.

Hi electronicfreak

I did download the file, and the file wouldn't run. A message appeared as follows (see attactment)

Any suggestions???

go to the following website and navigate down to # 119 Change Hard Drive Icons, click on it - it will download a VBS script, execute that script and leave the corresponding box (input option) blank, reboot and it the icons should be reset to the original, if not run it once more and again leave the box blank...

PS: to add to Vacunitas post, if you have a file called AUTORUN.INF on the ROOT of the HDD, these too can change the ICON of the drive in question, delete it and all should be set back to normal...

Hi BadBigBen

Thanks for all your help!!!

The solution was removing the Autorun.inf and then rebooting the machine.
