My Win95 machine boots up fine untill it is time to load the GUI. It goes straight to the C:> Prompt. How do I get my GUI back??

Any Ideas??

Thanks
Jason

Once you hit the C prompt, try typing WIN. If this loads fine, try an F8 boot and do option 1. If this loads fine, check that you have the shell=explore.exe line in your ini file.

You also want to check the msdos.sys file. It will probably have a line that says BOOTGUI=. If that line says BOOTGUI=0, change the line to BOOTGUI=1.
John D. Saucier
jsauce@net1plus.com
<a href= Backup
Thanks For the tip jsauce i will try it later...

Nothing worked can't fing msdos.sys file anywhere??
Help ME Please....
The msdos.sys file is located in the root directory of your C:\. So it would be C:\MSDOS.SYS. The file is hidden, read-only and a system file. From the dos prompt, type ATTRIB -r -s- h c:\msdos.sys
This will make the file viewable. Once you have done that you should be able to access it from dos or windows. Then follow what I said before about BOOTGUI. Once you have edited the file you will need to reset the properties again. Just type ATTRIB +r +s +h C:\msdos.sys at the command prompt.
John D. Zqlandakh, I believe was talking about your win.ini file; the only problem with this advice is that you can load the GUI just fine from the DOS prompt by running win.com......but you might check for any properties that look like they could be related in your system.ini file as well.
-Robherc
robherc@netzero.net

*nix installation & program collector/reseller.
