Lost Folder and Drive Sharing/Properties

I have lost the ability to view folder or drive properties. If I right click on say, D: select properties or sharing, nothing happens. I have tried using File>properties, same result. It is doing this for my all of my partitions as well as my CD drive.

I had this problem once before, and thought it was tweakui, (I think I even contributed to a thread on it), but I haven't installed tweak... Very frustrating, please help!

Some more info... After right clicking a drive and selecting properties, I noticed that Explorer window title bar goes grey(inactive window), kinda like the properties opened, just isn't on the screen. If I <alt+tab>, it tells me there are 2 applications open, but there isn't, and if I select the second icon (a drive icon) the icon disappears. Could the properties tab be open but not visible?

I have this same problem. I noticed it with Windows 2000 after I installed SP2. I had to back out of SP2 to SP1 to get the ability to view properties on folders back. I thought upgrading to Windows XP would help, but I have the same problem there.

My computer was hit by the Nimda virus and I patched it with a utility from Symantec, but I'm wondering if this problem could be due to the virus.

Have you come to any conclusions?

Hi,
I have the same problem on my pc. I tried to re-install win2000, but I still had the same problem. Then, I installed SP2, and I still have the same problem.
The strange thing is that I only have the problem on my local drive, but not on the network drives.
Please help if you know the solution.
Regards.

Hi,
One more thing. Just before I discovered to have this problem, I have installed ISS services on my pc. I don't know if it is related to it or not, but I want to know if the other users discovering this problem also had ISS services installed on their system.

Hi, wima85. How do I check. You don't mean IIS do you? Sorry for the dumb question, I'll be happy to tell you if I know what I'm looking for.

There is another issue describing the same problem, but also without solution: thread616-144723.

Hi 67sport, yes, I mean ISS. I am looking further on the web to find a solution.

Some more issues:
thread96-104107
thread616-50035
Unfortunately all without solution.

Hi all,
It works again on my pc. I did the following:
- De-installed IIS from the windows components.
- Now, the folder properties are visible again.
- Re-installed IIS.
- The folder properties are still visible.
- I restarted the computer (with automatic starting of IIS).
- Folder properties are not visible anymore.
- I checked the services, and I found that IIS is started, but 2 of the dependancies are in 'starting' phase: SMTP and Services.
- I changed IIS and his 3 dependancies to manual starting.
- I restarted the computer, and the folder properties are visible again.
- I started the necessary services with the Personal Web Manager, and the folder properties are still visible.
It is not yet the solution I prefer (because I have to start a process manually), but it is a temporary solution that is acceptable for me.
I hope that it also helps you to solve your problems.

I am so glad to read your message because I had a similar problem. so nice to find solutions.
