I used to have lantzvillecomputers.ca but it has expired. I can't remember who I registered it with. But I'm sure they have an old email address of mine and therefore never contacted me to bill me for the coming year, and thus my domain name is suspended. Because of this I can't reregister it using another registry company. Does anyone know how I find out who to contact to retreive my domain name. All help would be much appreciated.

Hi Glenmac,

Using Google, I found Canada's domain authority is CIRA (
Doing a WHOIS using CIRA, I found the following domain information:
Code:
Registrant Name Glen McMillan
Registrar Canadian Domain Name Services Inc.
Renewal Date 2004/11/13
Date approved 2003/11/13
Last changed 2004/11/13
Description
Registrar Number 140
Registrant Number 849362
Domain Number 849362

Your telus email address is listed as an administrative contact, so if this address is still valid, this will most likely be enough 'proof' of identity for reactivation. Otherwise, you may have to fax a copy of your driving licence, or similar.

You registered with CADNS ( so you should probably start by contacting them.

Good luck!

there is a lot of info you can get from this page if you search for the domain.

i don't want to post it because, although it's public information anyway, it's still your info it doesn't need to be posted all over town. :)

One thing to be aware of is that they may impose a fee for you to renew the domain because you allowed it to expire. For UK domains, the price is upwards of about £80. I don't know about CA domains but you may wish to check on this.

Hope this helps

I have resolved the issue thanks to you folks help, and there was no extra fee. As per changing my info relative to my Domain Name Manarth is right, I do need to provide "picture ID" ect. I am happy to see these security precautions and this was a good learning experience.

Interesting news on domain renewals:

If five days pass without your response, the domain name automatically switches.
Scary huh? 5 days!

On this point, if anybody has domain names get them put onto Reigstry-Lock status. If you manage domains for clients, do the same with every one of these.

The real test of this new change will be over Christmas, as it's known that most businesses will not check their e-mail for at least 5 days.

I have a customer who's website went into "redemption" I think it's 30 days then the registrar can charge anything they want to get it out of redemption. in my customers case they names4ever wants $185. I think godaddy charges 90, internic up to 1000.

My customer attempted to renew the domain last month but the payment was not received. Now they're having to fight with aplus.net(names4ever) to get it out of redemption without paying the 185 because names4ever messed up.

the good news is they can wait 6 months for it to be available again and renew it like normal. the bad news is they still have to finish paying me for the site design they can't use for 6 months (if they can't get it straight)
