I am running w98. Apparently, over 2gbs of hard disk space has just vanished into thin air. Also, when I open programs, they are tsking up space on my hard drive. What sparked these issues was the message "out of disk space run disk clean-up" which I did and it gave back some space (not over 2gbs)but soon after, the space disappeared again. any one out there have a solution? I checked most of computer for recent large saves such as pictures, etc. and there is nothing.

boot to a dos prompt with a startup disk or holding the ctrl key down to get to the boot menu..once there run scandisk and see if it finds a problem with free space..
scandisk from windows usually misses this

this is very true, a dos scandisk may fix this. i had the same problem in windows XP with multiple drives. i had a black 20gb (18.9 actual) drive with nothing on it at all yet it said that it only had 16.5 free, chkdsk did not help. only after i formatted it, the unaccounted for space reappeared. very odd.
