We have upgraded and replaced our win 2000 server to a win2003 server and as such we all ended up with new user id. XP in its wisdom decided that we needed to have new profiles created. So effectively we enede up with a blank canvas.
I was able to copy across most of my stuff from my old profile but when I started Delphi 5, it had lost all it's components, all packages and all paths in the environment.

Does anybody know if there is a pointer or file on the system or in the registry (or something else)that needs to be tweaked so I can get back all my components without having to re-install then from scratch?

just copy the original user's \software\borland key to your current user with regedit

OK I have to play dumb here.

How do you do it?

Do you load the hive?
Is there a "copy from" feature in regedit?

The file I want to get at is NTUSER.dat in the old profile isn't it?

Thanks in advance

There is one way to fix it...
You can rename the profile while you are logged on with an administrator.

Rename the new profile, and then rename the old profile to the new profile's original name.
Thenb log on with the user youve installed delphi with, and start regedit and export the registry.

Then log out and log on with the administrator agaun and "reverse rename" the profiles.

Thanks for the tip.

I found another way.

I loaded the old ntuser.dat as a hive using regedit.
Then I got hold of a freeware product called registrar lite which lets you work the registry like explorer and I was able to copy and paste the Borland section from the hive to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

And what do you know my Delphi was back again.

Now I had to repeat the action with some 40 other applications, but at least it is a solution.

Thanks again
