When I was informed of the problem the original database name - CWS.mdb - had disappeared and db1.mdb, db2.mdb and db3.mdb had appeared. db1 and db2 appeared to be corrupt and couldn't be opened but it was possible to open db3 and use it, which is what the users had been doing. On the face of it renaming db3 back to the original name seemed the answer, but when I came to look more closely I found that all the relationhship links had disappeared. I understand the the problem is caused by Access being unable to compact on closing but beyond that I'm stumped. The database is on a network and two or more users may be using it at the same time. The Access is 2003 running in XP Professional.

Any help would be appreciated.

You may consider to split your database in one shared BackEnd (BE) and several FrontEnd (one local FE for each user).

Hope This Helps, PH.

Thanks PH, I'll bear it in mind. However, in the meantime I have found a suggestion that installing Microsoft Office SP3 will solve the problem so I'm trying this.
