I have lost the borders in my front page 98 web. No top or Left side. I think I lost a file called Default.asp I tried to save the default.asp to a separate file folder on the computer for a backup but when I went to restore it, it was only a shortcut. It looks like I have lost my nav format.

I assume you're using shared borders. There's a bug in the earlier version of FrontPage that causes the borders to blank for no apparent reason. You'll need to recreate the shared borders. Then go into the borders folder (it's a hidden file, so you may need to go to the Web Settings on the Tools menu to show the hidden files) and make a copy of all the border pages. Then if the borders blank again, you can just copy your backups over them.

The newest version of FrontPage has corrected the bug.
