Lost 2nd Lvl & Mermail Passwords

I thought I would post this before calling a vendor to hack my system.

I decommissioned an Opt11 about a year ago and before taking it down, wrote down all of the passwords, 1st level, 2nd level, Mermail System and Admin and taped them to the system. When I powered it back up in preperation for an install, the 1st level worked fine, but the 2nd level and all MerMail passwords are no longer recognized. Anyone have any ideas as to what might have happened and how I can solve this? I figured if it would have lost passwords, it should have lost them all and gone to default, but the 1st level works, which is odd. None of the defaults work either.

You could startup from a PC Card and reinstall the system software. For the Meridian mail, if you boot from tape, there's an option to reset admin password.

Hi Kris,

I have a similar problem, but my issue is that the CPU card does not have a PCMCIA interface on it. I assume this is an older card. Is there a way to 'reflash' this card?

You can force restore a database into an Option 11c if the system is down or inaccessible. you have to set the dip switches into a certain mode, then send the file, then restart it. The procedure is in the 11 documentation on Nortel's website or in the MERL if you have a copy.

But, YES it can be done.

Hi Kris,

I have Micro-MERL, it is missing from there. I have no database backup so cannot restore from a previous database. Ideally I'd like to just wipe everything and start from scratch. Is that possible?
